Peace is the Foundation of Global Prosperity

The African Solidarity Civic Organisation (ASCO) expresses its profound concern over the continued tensions and military confrontations in the Middle East involving the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. At a time when humanity faces unprecedented challenges, including climate change, economic inequality, forced displacement, food insecurity, and growing humanitarian crises—the pursuit of peace must remain the foremost priority of the international community.
ASCO firmly believes that every armed conflict, regardless of its geographical location, carries consequences that extend far beyond national borders. Modern economies are interconnected, global supply chains are interdependent, and human security is indivisible. Escalating conflict threatens international trade, energy security, investment confidence, humanitarian development, and the collective pursuit of sustainable economic growth. Ultimately, it is ordinary citizens across the world who bear the greatest cost of instability.

Our organisation reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, respect for international law, peaceful coexistence among nations, and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect. Lasting peace cannot be secured through military confrontation alone; it is built through courageous leadership, trust, inclusive dialogue, and a shared commitment to our common humanity.
As an African organisation, ASCO recognises that the African continent has experienced the devastating consequences of conflict and has equally demonstrated the transformative power of reconciliation, regional cooperation, and peacebuilding. These experiences reinforce our conviction that sustainable peace is not merely a political aspiration—it is an indispensable prerequisite for economic development, investment, innovation, environmental sustainability, and human dignity.

ASCO therefore calls upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prioritise constructive diplomatic engagement, protect civilian populations, and renew international efforts towards a just and durable peace. We further encourage governments, multilateral institutions, civil society, academia, the private sector, and development partners to strengthen investments in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, mediation, and intercultural dialogue. Investing in peace is not an act of charity; it is a strategic investment in global stability, shared prosperity, and the wellbeing of future generations.
Our commitment has always been clear and unwavering: peace is not the absence of disagreement but the presence of justice, dialogue, cooperation, and respect for human dignity. It remains the most trusted vehicle for inclusive economic prosperity and sustainable development.

“When peace prevails, humanity prospers. When dialogue succeeds, nations flourish. Peace is the greatest investment we can make for our collective future.”
