Our seven public-benefit activity categories are drawn from ASCO's Public Benefit Activities Schedule: environmental protection, social cohesion, civic education, humanitarian and community support, youth development, peace and justice, and partnerships.
Flagship Public-Benefit Activity
Environmental Protection & Community Resilience is ASCO's flagship public-benefit activity category, covering environmental awareness, local action, climate resilience and sustainability. Its current flagship initiative is Aquatic Ecosystem Protection & Environmental Resilience: community-based action focused on protecting aquatic and coastal environments, promoting environmental awareness, and strengthening community participation in sustainable environmental stewardship. This category is recorded in ASCO's Public Benefit Activities Schedule (Annexure D) and drawn from the Ninth Schedule to the Income Tax Act, 1962.

Flagship Initiative
The confirmed initiative under ASCO's Aquatic Ecosystem Protection & Environmental Resilience programme.
Operation Protect Our Aquatic Ecosystem was conducted on 22 September 2026 at Richards Bay Beachfront, King Cetshwayo District, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Confirmed activities comprised environmental awareness, beachfront cleanup, and community environmental engagement focused on protection of the aquatic and coastal environment.
SuperPowerSpar-Empangeni is the confirmed sponsor of this specific campaign. ASCO does not present SuperPowerSpar-Empangeni as a general strategic or permanent organisational partner. Further details, including any verified results, will be published once confirmed.

ASCO's flagship environmental campaign, conducted at Richards Bay Beachfront with environmental awareness, a beachfront cleanup, and community environmental engagement focused on protection of the aquatic and coastal environment. The campaign's advocacy message was that aquatic ecosystems are worth more than oil profits, and that once destroyed they cannot simply be bought back — protecting biodiversity, supporting coastal livelihoods and food security, strengthening a blue economy, and securing future generations.

Durban Beach Front, KwaZulu-Natal · 15–25 October 2026 · Scheduled
The campaign continues at Durban Beach Front under the banner Clean Beaches, Healthy Oceans, Sustainable Future. Pillars of activity are clean and healthy marine environments, biodiversity conservation and protection, climate change action and resilience, community participation and environmental education, and sustainable livelihoods for coastal communities, aligned to SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

Public-Benefit Programme Approach
ASCO's principal object is to carry on public benefit activities in a non-profit manner and with altruistic motivations, for the benefit of the general public. In terms of ASCO's Constitution, those activities are as set out in the Ninth Schedule to the Income Tax Act, 1962, as amended from time to time. These activities are drawn from ASCO's Public Benefit Activities Schedule (Annexure D) in its Official Institutional Profile, and are set out in full in the next section. ASCO is a SARS-approved Public Benefit Organisation, PBO No. 930092287.
Section 18A: Section 18A recognition remains pending as a separate application. Individual programmes are not separately approved under Section 18A, ASCO does not currently issue Section 18A receipts, and donations are not represented as tax-deductible.

Every initiative starts with the community that will live with the outcome — their priorities set the agenda.
We favour solutions that can be tested, measured, and adapted, rather than one-size-fits-all interventions.
We design programs that can be carried forward by communities themselves, not initiatives that end when we leave.
